Right one will find you.

My mother,

She taught me to never cry over boys.

My heart was too precious to be laid upon for them to brush their pride, she reminded me over and over again.

And that I am always enough.

“People leave, even when they promised”, she wrote me in one of her letters.

“But trust the Lord’s plan, you will meet the one who stays.” In following pages she drew those words.

Because she knew it was no good to grieve on wasted love,

and to spill our blood over images of people that ghosted our hearts.

I made up my mind, repeatedly admonished how I was supposed to hold myself strong,

Nights after nights I clung to those appellations I swore to her.

Until he came along,

I couldn’t keep the promises I made to her.

“Please don’t do this to me. I can’t let my mother down.” My voice quivered from all the pleadings I did to him.

Yet he tore me in edges, tried to break me apart.

But remember?

What my mother told me,“To never cry over boys”

She warned me, didn’t she?

About the boys who talked about flowers and blue waters in mid-July and them being so good with breaking hearts.

How foolish to think, he was different.

I forgot how easy is it to break promises;

He promising me forever,

And the one I made to my mother.

But amidst her letter, it read, “Right one will find you,”

My eyes slowly drank every letter which she wrote so beautifully in cursive.

While in retrospect,

I now understand why she didn’t want me to excavate skeletal remaining of my wasted past.

For I no longer belong there.

Because right one will find you, my mother would tell me time and again.

Years passed, and his name is a faint history,

But I am still keeping the promise I made to her,

For it made me strong.

Because my mother wrote me,“Be so much in love, my darling, that grief leaves no stain and right one will come at you.

But right one was there all along, right in front of me.

I then smiled at the mirror, while I kept reading one of her letters.
